Chance to sign petition against Maxwell Park, Borehamwood closure

Campaigners fighting against plans to close a “magical” community centre will be taking their petition to the streets this weekend.

Hundreds of people have rallied together to stop the closure of Maxwell Park, in Maxwell Drive, Borehamwood.

Hertfordshire County Council plans to close the site later this year, opening a new community centre in Shenley Road later this year.

But the news was met with horror from residents, who have told the Borehamwood Times the centre, built in the 1960s, is “irreplaceable.”

Centre secretary June Kempton said: “It has such a lovely atmosphere here. It’s the place where all the magic happened back in the day.

“It is a really friendly place and it would be such a shame if we had to lose it.”

People will have a chance to sign the petition on Saturday, March 16 between 9am and 3pm at the Boulevard, in Shenley Road.

When will you ever get street names correct...? Maxwell Park Community Centre (not 'Maxwell Park') is in Maxwell Road NOT Maxwell Drive. Jeez!

the amount of activities proposed to benefit from the new shenley road centre seems very ambitious, unless it is going to be 20 stories high
