Haberdashers Askes Boys School
An independent school in Elstree wants to knock down a listed building as part of a project to redevelop its swimming pool and squash courts.
Haberdashers Askes Boys School, in Butterfly Lane, has applied for planning permission to demolish its existing swimming pool, gymnasium, squash courts, school shop and storage buildings.
In new planning proposals, the school aims to consolidate all these facilities into one new building.
Planning approval must be given for the work because the floor space of the new site exceeds 1,000ft.
And as the site is not near a residential area, Hertsmere Borough Council planning officers have recommended that permission be granted, provided the materials used in the construction are approved by the authority.
A final decision will be made at a committee meeting next Thursday.
