Hertfordshire County Council is working in partnership with health services and charities to raise awareness of dementia.

The authority is teaming up with NHS Hertfordshire and the Alzheimer’s Society to put up posters and adverts across the county to raise the profile of the disease.

The campaign aims to encourage residents to contact their GP for an assessment if they fear they or someone they know may have the condition, as early diagnosis could lead to better treatment.

According to the Councillor Colette Wyatt-Lowe, cabinet member for health and adult care, the number of people in the county living with dementia is set to rise by eight per cent by 2015.

The authority is working with the Alzheimer’s Society to improve a million people’s awareness of the condition by 2015.
