Residents 'slept with one eye open' after anti-social behaviour in Eldon Avenue, Borehamwood
5:22pm Monday 25th February 2013 in News By Anna Slater
Rioting children stormed a quiet street and started throwing “anything they could get their hands on” at houses this weekend.
The hooligans took to Eldon Avenue, Brook Road and Fairway Avenue, just after 5.30pm on Saturday and began causing damage to cars parked on the street.
Police were called to the scene and arrested two 16-year-olds, who have since been released on bail.
But after the teens were arrested, residents claim a mob of around ten boys turned up at Eldon Avenue and began leaving a second trail of destruction.
Fifteen separate incidents of damage to cars in Brook Road, Eldon Avenue and Fairway Avenue were reported to police. Damage was also caused to people's homes.
One woman, who did not want to be named, said: “I was terrified – but what can we do? After the police arrested the boys and left, more came back and we didn't ring the police again.
“They tore down the street like they owned the place. I heard a child next door asking her mum if they were going to come and get her too, it broke my heart.
“It was pure hooliganism. They anything they could get their hands on at the houses and left some very badly damaged.
“It was a nightmare evening and I slept with one eye open.”
One house has now been boarded up after the front door and fence were destroyed during the mayhem.
The road is an anti-social behaviour hot spot and residents have called on security cameras to be installed in the area.
The woman added: “I don’t want to brush this under the carpet and hope it will go away – it has gone on too long already. There is nothing left for these hooligans to fear.
“Something has to be done.”
The Borehamwood Times is awaiting comment from Herts Police.
