A group of teenage volunteers learnt life-saving skills at a training day this week.

The Hertsmere Air Cadets learnt the British Red Cross emergency first response training at a special event at the civic offices, in Elstree Way, on Wednesday.

The nine cadets, all under the age of 15, were also taught how to care for a casualty, how to control bleeding and how to carry out CPR.

Five other cadets took the over 16s First Aid at Work qualification, where they got a real taste of police training and learnt about choking, shock, seizures and strokes.

President of Hertsmere Police Cadets, Cllr John Donne, said: “Learning about first aid is a great skill to have and you never know when you might need to use it.”

“I hope the cadets enjoyed the event and feel more confident about dealing with a casualty in the event of an incident.”
