Neighbourhood Inspector for Hertsmere Richard Johnson to stamp out car crime

Criminals who steal from cars will “not be tolerated and will be caught”, a new senior policeman has warned.
Neighbourhood Inspector for Hertsmere Richard Johnson, who joined the force two weeks ago, said tackling car crime was among his top priorities.
He told the Borehamwood & Elstree Times there has been a string of thefts from cars in supermarkets in Hertsmere this year and he is calling on drivers to be on their guard.
Insp Johnson said: “It can be very frustrating for someone who has had something stolen from their car, because usually it can be avoided.
“Many people do not lock their car when they go to put their shopping trolleys away at the supermarket and that is when the thieves strike. They are usually waiting.
“It is important for people to know they should lock their car. It takes just three seconds but can save so much hassle.”
Insp Johnson admitted car crime is not a “huge” problem, but wanted to prevent motorists from becoming victims.
He said criminals saw cars as easy targets because they could sell stolen metal, car parts and radios to scrap dealers to make money.
But the inspector warned against falling into a "siege mentality" and did not want people to be overly fearful.
The police has launched a new Plate Safe campaign, which gives motorists the chance to have free tamper-proof number plate screws.
Insp Johnson added: “All supermarkets in the area have CCTV cameras and we have a good relationship with scrap dealers, who tip us off if they suspect anything.
“They will not be tolerated – we will catch criminals who steal from cars.”

Mr.Taxpayer show the law some respect, at least for now- comedy names to be issued when these promises are proven to be empty.

I applaud Richard for his warnings- now back them up with action.

Besides, coming to the papers to say stuff like this is pure PR rubbish. It's so they can say they have 'initiatives' going to combat problems when in reality we all know that Herts Police has about 12 policemen and a dog left after all the government cutbacks.
Criminals can pretty much get away with most things as the police are never about, and when you call them they are miles away and not that interested even when they do arrive.
It's far easier for them all to sit up places like Watford town centre on a Friday night getting easy arrests for drunken behaviour to keep numbers up.
Just hope you never need to call them, as my experiences of Herts Police shows them to be like the keystone cops!

I didn't realise the police tolerated it in the first place. Probably why they never caught the ****'s that broke in to our car.
