Chance to sign petition against rail freight terminal in Radlett this weekend
Campaigners fighting against plans for a rail freight terminal will take to the streets with their petition.
Residents who have not yet signed the petition against the Helioslough proposal in Park Street will be able to show their support at St Albans market from 9.30am on Saturday.
The online petition, set up last month, hopes to convince Hertfordshire County Council not to sell the land needed to build the controversial terminal near Radlett.
Secretary of State Eric Pickles said the plans will go ahead - despite objections from residents, politicians and councils.
So far the petition has collected 7,714 signatures and the closing date to sign is March 31.
Last week, members of the Elstree & Borehamwood Greenbelt told the Borehamwood Times the terminal would cause “mammoth” traffic jams in the area.
Ann Goddard, of Deacons Hill Road, Elstree, said: “The plans are crazy. The traffic tailbacks here are bad enough as it is, but this will make it so much worse.
“It will be generally awful and unpleasant for anyone in the area, and a beautiful patch of green belt will be lost forever.”
