Hertfordshire Police Commissioner David Lloyd: 'Deputy role is something I will reflect on'

Police Crime Commissioner David Lloyd may not appoint a new deputy to replace Rachel Frosh.

Mr Lloyd revealed he was considering whether or not to replace Dr Frosh, who stepped down earlier this week after controversially retweeting a photo and quote by Adolf Hitler to her Twitter followers.

Dr Frosh, who was appointed to the £20,000 two-day a week role by Mr Lloyd following his election in November, was also removed from the Conservative Party's candidate list this week.

Speaking at the Police and Crime Panel meeting last night, Mr Lloyd said: "As many of you know there was some press interest in her after retweeting a tweet.

"She apologised for that and recognised she has upset people she didn’t want to upset, and felt it would be better to explain what she was doing and didn’t want to bring the office into disrepute.

"I regret that she tendered her resignation.

"I am not going to appoint a deputy in the short term, this does give me an opportunity to reflect on what I am going to do.

"It isn’t a role we have to have, it is something I will reflect on.

"If in due course I reflect that I do need a deputy I will bring that person to you."
