The ambulance service that covers Borehamwood is in line for two national awards.

The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust is a finalist for the Most Improved Trust at the NHS Employers Flu Fighters awards.

One of the team, Dennis Clarke, has also been shortlisted for the flu-fighter champion award.

Mr Clarke was diagnosed with prostate cancer five years ago and so decided to become a ‘flu fighter’ as he recovered.

The paramedic of 35 years said: “The nomination is absolutely brilliant especially under the circumstances.

“I am incredibly proud of the trust and proud to be able to continue working for it so to be recognised for that work is really great.

“This role has meant I can carry on providing an important service to staff, and indirectly patients and the public, as well as carry on supporting my family.”

The team was shortlisted after people being given the flu jab in the East of England doubled – from 18.4 per cent in 2011 to 33.2 per cent in 2012.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Leeds later this month.
