UK Crime Statistics show anti-social behaviour figures down in Borehamwood

Figures show anti-social behaviour in Borehamwood fell in the final few months of last year.

Data published on the UK Crime Statistics website shows the number of people reporting these crimes went down in September, October and November.

The news is in contrast to statistics published in the first half of last year, showing the number of incidents reported before September 2012 was 1,851.

While September 2012 saw 63 reports of anti-social behaviour, the figure for the same month in 2011 was at 85.

In October 2012, 47 incidences were recorded, but in the previous year that number stood at 82.

And in November 2012, only 47 crimes were reported to the police – in contrast to the 71 reported in November 2011.

Despite this apparent decrease, residents living in Crown Road told the Borehamwood Times earlier this week that rowdy teenagers were making their lives “hell”.

One man, a 51-year-old, was left feeling miserable after the yobs – who are as young as 14 – slashed his tyres, threw a brick through his window and flung rubbish in his garden.

A statement from the police said: “We recognise the impact anti-social behaviour can have on communities and have been working hard to reduce the instances reported.

“Officers have employed a variety of tactics including the use of ASBOs and tenant injunctions.

“As a result, in the financial year to date we have seen a 22.7 per cent reduction in the number of reports compared to the same in the previous year.

“The latest victim surveys show police in Hertsmere have the highest satisfaction results in the country for our response to anti-social behaviour.”
