First Capital Connect announces train delays after heavy snowfall in Borehamwood
4:44pm Friday 18th January 2013 in News By Anna Slater
Heavy snowfall has caused to delays to trains in Borehamwood, leaving hundreds stranded while battling freezing temperatures.
First Capital Connect is reporting a disruption of up to two hours due to earlier broken down trains at London and Blackfriars.
And to make matters worse – the train firm has confirmed these delays will continue until further notice.
Twitter user Nicola Spital tweeted: “Are there any trains picking people up from Elstree and Borehamwood into town? We have been waiting an hour”.
Others have been left stuck at school – teenager Joseph Winer tweeted: “Exam finished, but now stuck in Borehamwood. #stranded.”
The snow began falling at around 9am, leaving around four inches on the ground and wreaking havoc on the roads.
Schools across the borough shut early as parents and teachers were left wondering how – and if – they would make it home.
But those who breathed a sigh of relief when the snowfall came to a stop at around 3pm should brace themselves.
Forecasters are predicting snow will start again just after 5pm, and continue well into Monday, with hourly breaks every four or five hours.
Did you make a snowman or spend the day sledging? Or did you head down to Woodcock Hill? Send your pics to aslater@london.newsquest.co.uk.
