The former chief executive of Hertfordshire County Council has been named on the New Year Honours list.

Caroline Tapster, who worked for the authority for 16 years before retiring in May 2012, was awarded a CBE for services to local government.

Mrs Tapster first started her career as a social worker, and was promoted to chief executive after eight years at the council.
