A headteacher is preparing to retire after 24 years working at a school for children with autism.

Lynda Perry started working at Radlett Lodge school in 1988 as a language teacher, before taking on the role of deputy head in 1992 and the role of principal in 1997.

The Harper Lane school is run by the National Autistic Society, the UK's leading charity for people with autism and their families.

During her time at the helm of Radlett Lodge, Mrs Perry has opened secondary and post-16 departments.

She has led training within other schools and at local, regional and national conferences.

Due to retire at the end of the month, she is looking forward to spending more time with her grandchildren and taking a long holiday, travelling around the west coast of America.

Next month, at the beginning of the new term, current deputy principal Jo Galloway will become the new principal. Mrs Galloway has worked at Radlett Lodge for 11 years.
