Hertfordshire County Council has been given just under £5m to help repair and maintain its roads.
The authority was allocated an extra £4.94m from the £333m of additional road renewal funding that Chancellor George Osborne announced in the autumn statement.
Local authorities had to be declared eligible by proving they were not take part in any private finance initiatives.
Each year, they will also be expected to announce how much they have spent.
Cash was divided between authorities based on how many roads they were in charge of and how many repairs needed doing.
Transport secretary Patrick McLoughlin said: "This extra money will support economic growth and development by helping local authorities to get the best out of their local road networks.
"This funding can be spent on measures to bring smoother, safer and more reliable journeys to the travelling public whether they are commuting to work or taking the children to school."
