In a dramatic start to the month, a shop assistant was stabbed as he worked an evening shift.

Albie Blakeley, 19, was working in McColls in Hartforde Road, Borehamwood, when a man came into the shop and lunged at him with a knife, cutting him below the shoulder.

The robber then ordered another shop assistant to open the tills, before taking the money and running out.

Also in March, a woman who was fed up with dog walkers who refused to pick up after their pets began sticking homemade signs near their droppings to deter the owners.

Paula Heard, of Well End Road, Borehamwood, printed warnings on the ground saying: ‘If your dog did this, please pick it up, or face a fine’.

She then began a petition calling on Hertsmere Borough Council to install a dog waste bin at the corner of Rowley Lane and Well End Road.

Later in the month, motorists were angry about plans to ban right turns from Elstree Hill South into Barnet Lane, to ease congestion around the crossroads.

Campaigners said the plans would have an adverse effect and not do anything to stop traffic jams in the area.

In a tragic end to the month, 40-year-old Terry Smith was killed when his motorcycle collided with a taxi near Elstree and Borehamwood station.

Floral tributes from friends, family and colleagues were left at the site, with one poignant message reading: “You will be missed more than you know.”

The Elstree Studios worker's family also paid tribute to the “best father, brother and uncle ever”.
