M1 closed southbound due to serious incident between Watford and Edgware

The M1 southbound between Watford and Edgware was closed this morning after a fatal accident.
The M1 remains closed southbound between Watford and Edgware following a serious collision earlier this morning.
Herts Police says the motorway is not expected to re-open until mid morning as investigations into the collision between two cars continue.
Emergency services were called to the incident near junction five (Watford) at 2.40am and initially closed the motorway in both directions.
The northbound carriageway has since been reopened but drivers travelling southbound have been advised to use the A1 and M40/A40 as alternatives.
