South African doctors visited a Radlett mental health unit for inspiration to renovate a similar centre in Cape Town.
The doctors, as well as project managers and architects, visited the Oak and Beech Unit, in Harper Lane, to see firsthand the designs and facilities on offer.
The group is about to renovate Valkenberg Psychiatric Hospital, in Cape Town, and chose to take example from Oak and Beech after it won the Building Better Healthcare award.
Visitors were given a tour around the £12m development, which also features an intensive psychiatric care unit and a rehabilitation centre on site.
During their visit, they were keen to speak to staff to gain their views on the unit, in a bid to gain ideas on how to modernise the centre in Cape Town.
After their tour around the hospital, the group said they were “very impressed” with the centre’s overall feel.
