A great grandmother who lost her son to leukaemia is holding a charity bazaar to raise cash for the disease.

Edith Oakley, of Battlers Green Drive, Radlett, is planning the bric-a-brac sale for the Borehamwood and Radlett Branch of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

The 93-year-old was devastated when her son, John, died of the illness aged ten in 1959, so has since dedicated her life to raising money to help find a cure.

Mrs Oakley said: “A few months after John died I saw an advert in the paper for help in raising money for leukaemia.

“I thought getting involved would be perfect and the rest is history. I have not given up and am determined to do all I can to help out.

“I am really looking forward to the fair and cannot wait to see how much money we raise.”

The grandmother-of-two has been a member of the organisation since it was founded in 1960. Her and her husband spent the next 44 years fundraising, until he passed away.

Christmas cards and gift ideas will be on sale at the fair, and people will also be able to buy raffle tickets on the day.

All are welcome to attend the event, which will be held on Sunday, November 18 from 11am to 2pm at the Philimore Centre, Battlers Green Drive, Radlett.
