Volunteers needed for charity shop
Volunteers from all walks of life are needed to lend a hand and help out a charity shop for a few hours a week.
People with big hearts and time to spare can help out by manning the tills at the Barnados, in Shenley Road, Borehamwood.
As part of the annual Make a Difference day – which was held yesterday – the team are hoping to inspire hundreds of new people to join in.
Donna Clements, of Thirsk Road, Borehamwood, started work at the shop as a full-time volunteer this week and said she “loves” it.
The 28-year-old added: “I had been looking for a job but couldn’t find anything, so decided it would be a good idea to help give back to the community.
“I would really urge people to go for it if they are thinking of volunteering. Not only is it a good laugh but you are helping a great cause.
“The atmosphere is really nice here, it is so homely and I have already settled in very well to this job.”
The charity shop helps raise cash for the child abuse charity and is open seven days a week.
Volunteer Christina Redmond, 66, added: “People here are so passionate about helping kids and everyone gets on with each other.
“There is never a dull moment here and every day is different. I actually love volunteering here.”
