Mother fined after buying vodka for teenage son
A Borehamwood mother was due to be issued with an £80 fine today after she purchased two bottles of vodka for her 15-year-old son and his friend.
The woman, who has not been named, bought the drinks at a store in the town before passing them on to the teenagers.
The pair were later found drunk and were taken home by police.
PC Sue Taylor, Hertsmere Youth Crime Reduction Officer, said: "It is disgraceful that adults should think it is appropriate to dole out bottles of booze as if they were sweets.
"It is particularly appalling that a mother should see fit to give her own child - and somebody else's - alcohol and then leave them to their own devices.
"The potential damage to their health and personal safety is frightening.
"It's timely that Chief Inspector Mark Hunter received a question on the Young Herts blog on the Borehamwood and Elstree Times website this week, from someone who was concerned about young people drinking.
"Adults should absolutely take note that buying alcohol for young people or selling it to them is a crime and if caught, you will be dealt with in a robust manner."
No further details of the woman or her son have been released.
