Radlett manure fire burns out
A manure fire which burned in a Radlett field for almost 20 hours was more time consuming than dangerous, according to firefighters.
Fire crews from Borehamwood and Watford were called to the field, off Oakridge Lane, at around 2pm on Tuesday.
Crew Commander Ian Youngs, of Borehamwood Blue Watch, said: "We were called to a great big pile of manure that had caught fire. We couldn't tell if it was deliberate but these things can self perpetuate.
"There was no way it could spread but we do have to be on site just in case it does.
"It was about 20 meters squared and about 10 feet deep and it would be a real pain to pull it apart so we just had to watch it burn.
"It was more time consuming than anything."
No one was injured by the blaze and firefighters left the scene at around 8.20am today.
