Shoppers help raise money for leukaemia research
Shoppers at a store in Borehamwood are being encouraged to donate left-over foreign currency to help leukaemia patients.
From dollars to yen to rupees, Argos customers at Borehamwood Shopping Park, off Theobald Street, will be able to donate foreign coins until the end of June, with all proceeds going to Leukaemia Research, Britain's leading blood cancer charity.
Argos stores across the country are seven months into a one-year partnership with the charity. So far more than £500,000 has been raised.
Kate White, Leukaemia Research's fundraising director, said: "Holidaymakers often return to the UK with a pocket full of foreign coins, which can't be spent in this country.
"By taking foreign currency to Argos stores, the money will go to Leukaemia Research, helping us beat blood cancers. Every peso counts."
Lorna Liggett, Argos community affairs manager, said: "By bringing their unwanted foreign currency to Argos stores, our customers can help us raise even more money to help Leukaemia Research support many more patients and families in need."
The fundraising efforts will support a special cytogenetic database, which will record symptoms and treatments of different types of blood cancer to help spot patterns and make future treatment more effective.
