    Eruv plans underway

Preparations are underway for the construction of an eruv in Borehamwood.

Hertsmere Borough Council agreed to the construction of the eruv last year. An eruv is a symbolic boundary that allows Orthodox Jews to carry and push items on their day of rest.

The Borehamwood eruv will be made up of 34 sets of poles and connecting wires which will bridge the gap between natural features such as train tracks, walls and hedges around the town.

Negotiations are still underway regarding the exact locations of the poles with Hertfordshire Highways working with the Elstree and Borehamwood (EBOR) eruv charitable trust to finalise the plans.

An EBOR spokesman said: "Everything is progressing according to schedule. The target was to have the eruv constructed within two years of being granted planning permission. The county council have been immensely cooperative."

A county council spokeswoman said: "We are working with EBOR to determine land ownership and site locations."
