If you miss the last train home after watching a football game at Wembley Stadium and need a place to stay, why not spend a night at the Wembley International Hotel.

Formally known as the Quality Hotel Wembley, in Empire Way, the company has re-branded itself into a three-star hotel with 165 en-suite rooms.

There is a sports bar, restaurant, meeting rooms, conference halls and an events hall that is available to hire for weddings, meetings and events. The Empire Hall has also been used for filming The X Factor and episodes of the BBC comedy series Miranda.

The hotel, which was established in 2002, offers free parking in the onsite car park, as well as free Wi-Fi and a free continental breakfast when you book through the official website.

As we stepped into our room, the first thing we noticed was an impressive view of Wembley Stadium out of our window, albeit slightly overshadowed by other tall, concrete buildings.

The double room was plainly decorated, but it was clean and had amenities such as an ironing board and hairdryer, along with a comfortable bed and a high pressured hot shower.

With the evening stretched out in front of us, we decided to have dinner first, but we were unfamiliar with the area and so decided to eat in the restaurant of the hotel, after being told it offered a selection of freshly made international cuisine.

We were greeted by a friendly waiter who joked that we could choose any table we wanted as the restaurant was empty. This meant we had the full attention of the staff but felt it was eerily quiet and when they eventually put music on to liven up the atmosphere, we found ourselves listening to Christmas tunes, despite it being February.

I scanned the menu and opted for a vegetable curry (£13), which I felt was rather over-priced when I saw the quality of the food. The vegetables looked like they had been heated up from a bag of frozen sweetcorn, carrots and mushroom and the supposed curry just tasted like a watery paste.

There was no entertainment provided in the hotel, but plenty of cheap bars nearby to visit instead, as well as the London Designer Outlet, in Wembley Park Boulevard, which is open until late.

The hotel is suited for those who aren’t expecting extravagance, but instead just need a basic place to stay for the night after a tiring day of shopping or watching a show at Wembley Arena.
