ALL the glamour, excitement, swing and sizzle of the roaring twenties in America will be brought to life once more as a new adaption of F Scott Fitzgerald’s much-loved novel, The Great Gatsby, bursts onto the artsdepot stage.

The production, which will tour other venues around the UK, was commissioned by Blackeyed Theatre to mark the 90th anniversary of the famous novel’s publication and features fabulous live music in this evocation, with a stellar cast including Adam Jowett (Emmerdale, Last Tango In Halifax, Macbeth) and Tristan Pate (Dusty, Dreamboats and Petticoats, Cider With Rosie).

It is the latest work of acclaimed writer Stephen Sharkey who has also worked on The May Queen at the Liverpool Everyman and The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui at the Nottingham Playhouse.

Mr Sharkey says: “Like a cocktail-fuelled ride in a fast car, this adaptation moves through F Scott Fitzgerald’s great story of a doomed love and decadent decade, heading toward its final, inevitable crash.”

Recreating the immersive sights and sounds of the American jazz age, the show promises to deliver an intriguing glimpse into the wealth-hungry, status-obsessed lifestyle of Fitzgerald’s characters, seen through the conflicted eyes of protagonist Nick Carraway.

Director Eliot Giuralarocca says: “Stephen Sharkey has shaped and distilled Fitzgerald's novel into a muscular narrative, full of cool, sexy, stiletto-sharp dialogue as cool as ice in a cocktail.

“I hope we have all the ingredients needed to give the audience a wonderful party and bring Fitzgerald's masterpiece roaring into life.”

The Great Gatsby is showing at artsdepot today, Thursday October 13 and Wednesday October14. Details:
