Awed music lovers welcomed the return last November of BBC Young Musician 2010, Lara Melda to the Colosseum stage. She performed Grieg’s Piano Concert in A minor for Watford Philharmonic Society and the Watford Observer reviewer, Graham Mordue, commended her “competence and control come of dedication and hard work“ and “faultless classical technique“.
Lara, 18, will next perform with Octagon Music Society with a programme to include Beethoven: Sonata in D minor, The Tempest, Messaien: Le Baiser de l’enfant Jesus and works by Rachmaninov, Chopin and Debussy: Reflets dans l’eau and Minstrels.
Lara, who studies at The Purcell School in Bushey and at Royal College of Music Junior Department, won the coveted BBC Young Musician Competition at the age of 16.
In the final, she dazzled jury and audience alike with a scintillating account of Saint-Saens virtuoso Second Piano Concerto with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.
The concert is at Clarendon Muse, Watford Grammar School for Boys, Rickmansworth Road on Sunday, March 4 at 4pm.
