Miriam Craig finds out what's happening over Easter weekend and during the school holidays

Borehamwood and the surrounding area is packed with enticing events for Easter, and children get most of the fun with creative courses and holiday activities.

Children and teenagers aged eight to 16 can have a go at singing, dancing and acting in a five-day Musical Theatre Workshop at The Radlett Centre, in Aldenham Avenue, Radlett, from Tuesday to Saturday, 9.30am to 4.30pm (Thursday 9.30am to 6pm). No previous experience of musical theatre is needed, but participants must be prepared to work hard and take direction. It costs £120. To book a place, call 01923 859291.

Also at The Radlett Centre over the holidays are two children's shows suitable for ages three and upwards. Harry and His Bucketful of Dinosaurs, on April 1 and 2 at 1pm and 3.30pm, delves into the imagination of a five-year-old boy whose toy dinosaurs are as real to him as the bucket he carries them in. By jumping into the bucket, he transports himself and the audience into Dino World, where his toys become full-sized playmates. Tickets cost £12 (under 16s £10, family ticket of four people, including two children, £40).

Stars of the classic children's TV programme Rainbow take to the stage in the new show, Rainbow Live! Zippy Superstar DJ, on April 12 at 1.30pm. Zippy's life changes when he wins a record contract with Yellow Peril Records. But he starts to miss his Rainbow friends, and has to decide where he would rather be. Tickets cost £8.50 (family ticket of four people including two children £32). To book for either show call 01923 859291.

Hertsmere Borough Council is running Artplay Fun schemes at Shenley Junior Mixed Infant School, in London Road, Shenley, on Friday, March 28, and at Parkside School, in Aycliffe Road, Borehamwood, on March 31, from 9.30am to 3.30pm. The one-day play schemes offer arts and crafts and other creative activities for children aged five to 11. Children can go to both days if they want to.

There is also a Dramaplay Fun scheme for five to 11-year-olds at Fair Field School, in Watford Road, Radlett, from April 1 to 3, from 9.30am to 3.30pm. This offers a range of drama workshops and children can go along for one, two or all three days.

A place on either scheme for Hertsmere residents costs £16 for one day, £27 for two days, or £38 for three days. For non-residents it costs £20 for one day, £33 for two days, or £44 for three days. For Hert card holders (available from Hertsmere leisure centres to borough residents on certain benefits) each day costs £11. For more information and to book call 020 8207 7568.

On Tuesday there will be an Easter egg hunt and mini funfair at Aberford Park, Borehamwood, starting at 12pm in the play area, with no latecomers accepted. To receive an egg, children must find a flag, though the hunt is subject to weather conditions. The egg hunt is free, but charges will apply for the funfair. For more information call 020 8207 7568.

For a more religious approach to Easter, there are several church services taking place. Shenley Methodist Church is holding a sunrise service in the Shenley Park walled garden, in Radlett Lane, Shenley, at 6.15am on Easter Sunday. For more details, call 01923 856810.

On Easter Sunday, St John the Baptist Church, in Church Lane, Aldenham, will hold Holy Communion at 8am, Family Communion at 10.15am, and Evensong at 6.30pm. Meet at 9am on Easter Monday at St John's Church, in Gills Hill, Radlett, for a hot cross bun breakfast before setting out at 9.30am on a pilgrimage walk to St Alban's Abbey. For more information call 01923 859963.

St Paul's Lutheran Church's Easter Sunday service will be followed by a champagne brunch with fresh croissants, in St Paul's Close, Borehamwood, at 10am. For more information, call 020 8953 3308.
