Belstone win Premier Cup
Broadfields United 0 Belstone 1 . . .
Harrow Sunday Challenge League Premier Cup final . . .
(at Hillingdon Borough FC) . . .
Belstone remain on course for five trophies this season.
The game was a scrappy affair and was not good viewing.
Broadfields started much better, but were kept at bay by the Belstone defence, who restricted them to long-range efforts that were never going to test goalkeeper Robbie Blackburne.
Belstone had the better chances in the first half, with strikers Jamie Arthur and Steve Quinn both shooting wide from tight angles. Paul Yule also came close from set pieces.
The second half saw the game open up a bit more, with both sides going for the win.
Broadfields had the majority of play again, but it was Belstone who looked more likely to score.
After 60 minutes, Nick Turner headed in Yule's corner, only to see it disallowed for a foul off the ball.
Giles Arthur then came close, rounding three Broadfields defenders, before seeing his shot well saved.
With 20 minutes to go, Turner scored the only goal of the game. The ball fell to him inside the area. He pretended to shoot and went past two defenders before toe-poking the ball inside the post.
Belstone then sat back and tried to run out the clock, inviting Broadfields on to the attack, but, with Blackburne claiming a number of crosses, and some last-ditch defending and crucial headed clearances by the back four, Belstone kept the Harrow side at bay.
And they nearly extended the lead at the death, when Jamie Arthur robbed a defender of the ball, raced through, but hit his shot wide.
Belstone host Broadfields United again on Sunday in the Champions Cup final. Kick off is 11am.
