    County badminton joy

Hertfordshire senior county badminton teams clinched two further national league titles on Sunday.

The fourth team, under the management of Colin Walker, overcame title challengers Suffolk 2nds at the Hertfordshire Sports Village to claim Division 4B in the Inter County Championship.

Although losing 8-7, the team gained promotion on the narrowest of margins.

Being equal with Suffolk on section points and wins, they won on a count back of games.

The team of James Reynolds (Hertford), Paul Monk (Stanstead Abbotts), Paul Kempster (Stevenage), Ed Lintott (St Albans), Jo Millward (Hatfield), Rachel Warnes (St Albans), Nikki Walker (Hertford) and Rhian Blowers (Potters Bar) can now look forward to new challenges that await them next season.

The 2nd team saw off Buckinghamshire 2nds to win Division 1C in convincing style and move into the division play offs for a place in Premier B next season.

The door is now firmly open for the 2nd team after the county 1st team won Premier B in February, and moved up into the top flight.

Ian Mulligan's side are under no illusions of the task ahead of them, with likely opponents Lanarkshire, Kent and Wiltshire all hoping to move into the Premier Division. Two of the four teams will make that move.

The county has a further high-profile event to look forward to when the 17-21 National Team Championships take place at the Hertfordshire Sports Village on the 29th/30th March 2008.

Play commences at 10am on both days and, with 20 counties taking part, competition will be tough and the atmosphere electric. Spectators are very welcome and entrance is free.

Hertfordshire will be represented by Emma Stokes (Bennington), Nicola Farr (Ware), Rachel Warnes (St Albans), Charlotte Willis (Welwyn Garden City), Rhian Blowers, (Potters Bar), James Reynolds (Hertford), Luke Donnelly (Potters Bar), Anthony Moye (Hitchin), Nigel Tao (Hatfield) and Greg Roantree (Welwyn Garden City).

Further information on this coming event can be obtained from Chairman of Senior Selectors Paul Widdicombe on 01920 484605.
