New kid on the block

By Suzie Hart »

Although I'm a new name to most Borehamwood & Elstree Times readers, I have been grafting away behind the scenes for more than a year now. As a sub-editor for the Times Series, I've been part of the team designing pages and writing headlines for the north London editions, but under the new structure I now dedicate all of my time to Borehamwood.

So with my desk now bunched closely with reporters Janaki and Suruchi, and assistant editor Emma, I feel so much closer to the news. I hear stories coming in from readers and contributors, am becoming familiar with who does what in the community, and am able to add my ideas when we plan the paper each week.

Having grown up in small-town New Zealand, I started my career working on community newspapers and it is where I feel at home. Although I'm still enjoying the novelty and madness of living in a city with nearly double the population of my entire country, it's also nice to know my job allows me to be part of a community, and hopefully contribute in some way.

I'm looking forward to working in the Drayton Road office every Friday, if not more often, and seeing in the flesh the faces I have been putting onto pages. Your hot tips on places I should spend Friday lunchtimes are most welcome.

In the meantime, you might come across my Kiwi accent on the other end of the phone so remember, you haven't got the wrong number, you have just reached the new kid on the block.
