Our first paper under the new ‘regime’ hit the presses last night – if you don’t receive it free to your door, you can pop in to our office in Drayton Road, or flick through it online here.

I won’t deny it was a bit daunting being responsible for sending all the pages to the printers, but none of the pages have come out blank (amazingly, they never do somehow) so I can breathe a sigh of relief this morning.

My personal highlights of this week’s edition (apart from the splash – more on that later) are the two picture spreads on p4 and p23 which were only possible because of the dedication of our snapper Peter Beal, who after 40 years with the company knows more than anyone how much value readers attach to seeing community events get the coverage they deserve.

The splash on Holocaust denier David Irving (see full story) came about thanks to some fantastic work by reporter Su Sharma, who was persistent in getting an interview with Holocaust denier David Irving – something which the nationals failed to get.

I’d recommend reading right to the end of the article to read his take on how he would get viewers to warm to him. I somehow doubt his knowledge of etiquette and good grammar would make his views more palatable to most people.
