A group of 13 college students are celebrating their bright futures as they receive offers from Oxford and Cambridge universities.

Teenagers from more than 180 schools in North London come to Woodhouse to study their A levels and 95 per cent of them go on to university.

Woodhouse College in Finchley has announced the offers after students went through a rigorous set of interviews to get approval from the world-renowned institutions.

Alice Gregson, from Friern Barnet, has had an offer to study English at Corpus Christi college in Cambridge on the condition she gets an A* and two As in her final results

The 17-year-old said: “I’m really happy about getting an offer because my mum always spoke about how she couldn't wait for me to go to uni and she really hoped I get into Oxbridge.

“She died a few years ago, so I’m happy that I did what she would have wanted me to and would have been proud.

“The rest of my family are really happy, my grandpa started crying and was telling a picture of my mum on the wall the good news, so it’s been quite emotional getting this offer.”

The application process for Oxbridge study includes writing a person statement, filling in an official supplementary application questionnaire (SAQ), send in essays and preparing for an interview.

Alice’s schoolmate Jordan Scammell, from New Southgate, has been given an unconditional offer to study History at the same college in Cambridge, meaning she gets in regardless of her final grades.

Pupils from Tottenham, Crouch End, Finsbury Park and Enfield are also celebrating offers from the two universities.

College principal John Rubinstein said: “We are delighted this year to have 13 offers from Oxford and Cambridge for students from across the curriculum.

“We have a lot of ambitious high-flyers at Woodhouse and they don’t always come from comfortable, privileged backgrounds, so it is a great joy for us to help them achieve the best they can.”
