More than £3,000 was raised at the latest NSPCC fundraiser last weekend.

On Sunday, the NSPCC craft fair at Allum Hall, in Elstree, raised more than £3,000 which could rise to £4,000 if other donations materialise.

The event was opened by the Elstree and Borehamwood Town Mayor Cllr Clive Butchins and Hertsmere MP Oliver Dowden attended to present the prizes for the Schools Art Competition which was the main feature of the day.

Ann Goddard, of the Elstree and Borehamwood NSPCC, said: "Everyone had a great shopping spree for gifts and bargains from the varied stalls and enjoyed the music of Borehamwood Brass, the Borehamwood Community Choir and Paul Lomax on electric guitar.

"Elstree and Borehamwood NSPCC tanks all the helpers, donors, musicians and customers who took part in supporting this wonderful cause."

The fair has been running now for 22 years and saw a range of events including games, competitions and art displays followed by a Chinese buffet. The money raised will go to aid the NSPCC in their work to end cruelty to children in the UK.

Mr Dowden said: "It was a real pleasure being invited to present the prizes again at the NSPCC’s local craft fair this year. There were some really excellent entries from the local children and the awards reflected the hard work done by all of them.

"The money raised is going to a very worthy cause. We all know the exceptional work the NSPCC do protecting some of the most vulnerable children in our country and I would particularly like to thank Dr Ann Goddard and all the volunteers who made the day possible."
