A charity invited Hertsmere MP to their warehouse to help volunteers send aid to people in Northern Iraq.

Charity Goods for Good, based off Theobald Street, in Borehamwood, takes charitable donations and overstock or surplus goods from businesses around the area and ships them across the world wherever they are needed. The aid ranges from warm clothing, shoes, toothbrushes and nappies.

On Friday Hertsmere MP Oliver Dowden joined the volunteers and helped pack the much needed products.

He said: "This is a fantastic charity and I was glad to chip in, helping volunteers sorting donated clothes. I would urge people to donate either their unwanted items or their time to this excellent cause as the aid goes to some of the most needy places in the world such as Syria and Northern Iraq.

"This is an excellent way of making sure that your charitable efforts bear fruit. It is being organised through the community on an inter-faith basis.

"I would like to particularly thank Rosalind Bluestone for her efforts and for inviting me along to see the work Goods for Good are doing for myself. This is a brilliant example of the Hertsmere community spirit in action."

Goods for Good was set up by Rosalind Bluestone back in 2014 after working for many years at the helm of a leading UK charity’s Gifts-In-Kind programme.

She said: "We were absolutely thrilled to have MP Oliver Dowden visit our Goods for Good warehouse. He was totally hands-on with our volunteers and whilst he sorted and packed with them he asked many questions as to the huge need.

"He also asked how the goods reached the needy recipients in the refugee camps in Kurdistan and about the Eastern European projects we support in Ukraine and Moldova.

"He helped us sort and pack clothing and other essential items. Mr Dowden is really engaged and supportive of our charity and praised the volunteers for their fantastic commitment."
