Campaigners continuing their ongoing battle to save Barnet libraries are urging people to join them at a national demonstration.

A National Libraries Museums & Galleries demonstration will march through central London this Saturday November 5.

Barnet's UNISON members will meet at the British Library, the British Museum and the National Gallery from 12pm this weekend.

Members of Barnet UNISON are urged to join the strike, and Shadow Chancellor MP John McDonnell has reached out to workers.

Mr McDonnell said: "I have personally been proud to have supported your members in their heroic struggles to defend public services in Barnet for over a decade.

"I give you my personal message of solidarity for your strike on November 5. I salute you for taking strike action to defend your jobs and library service."

Proposals looking to save £2.27 million were approved as Barnet Council voted 31-27 in favour of the plans during a full council meeting at Hendon Town Hall in April this year.

Protesters left feeling devastated after showing their support for the libraries as they gathered outside Hendon town hall beforehand chanting “Our libraries. Our Librarians. Not for sale”.

This has led to further protests, fear over job losses and cuts to staffed opening hours and downsizing library building across the borough.
