A riding centre for disabled children and adults needs more volunteers to keep the popular service going.

Penniwells Riding Centre, in Edgwarebury Lane, gives opportunity to up to 140 adults and children every week, all of which have either a physical or learning disability or both.

The centre receives no direct funding from central government and relies on the generosity of individuals and businesses to help to raise the £160,000 a year needed to keep the service running.

Staff are now desperately on the lookout for new volunteers to help out with leading and helping in their supervised riding sessions - particularly on a Sunday morning, Wednesday evening and Monday afternoon.

A spokesman for the centre said: “Without the help of volunteers we are not able to run our sessions efficiently and riders are losing out.

“Volunteering at Penniwells is a great way to get outdoors, have some exercise & enjoy the company of our ponies. You will meet like minded people, make new friends & be part of a wonderful Team changing the lives of our riders for the better. You really can make a difference.”
